ஆஹா வெள்ளித் திரையிலிருந்து ஒரு நக்ஷத்திரம் வந்திருக்கிறாரே. அவரையே அமோக வெற்றி பெறச் செய்வோம் என்று வாக்களித்தாயிற்று.

போகப் போகத் தானே தெரியும், இந்தப் பூவின் வாசம் புரிய.

While keeping fingers crossed, we, the Am Admi, have all the rights to know what are the sine qua non of a good leader and in whose hands the responsibility of good state administration is to be vested.

Maha Swami takes us back to the nitty gritties of Election during Chozha Era, esp., to Uthiramerur உத்தமத் தேர்தல் முறை. In the process of narrating what kind of a candidate is eligible to contest, He refers to number of characteristics for a candidate elaborated in the தேர்தல் முறை.

Here is an excerpt from தெய்வத்தின் குரல், vol 4 dealing with all round integrity of a candidate:

இந்தக் காலத்தில் சிலபேரைப் பற்றிக் கேள்விப்படுகிறோம் – பணவிஷயத்தில் ரொம்பவும் ந்யாயமாயிருப்பவர். கணக்குகளில் ரொம்பவும் கறார் என்று. ஆனாலும் இப்படிப்பட்டவர்களுடைய ஆல்-ரௌண்ட் காரக்டரை(எல்லா அம்சங்களிலும் அவர்களுடைய நடவடிக்கைகளை)ப் பார்த்தால் அவற்றில் சிலதில் த்ருப்தி இல்லாமலும் பலபேருடையது இருக்கிறது. ஒன்று இருந்தால் ஒன்று இல்லாமலிருக்கிறது. படிப்பு, வயஸு, கார்யத்திறமை எல்லாம் சேர்ந்து, நடத்தையிலும் எல்லா அம்சங்களிலும் சுத்தமாக இருக்கிறார்களா என்று பார்த்தால் எங்கேயாவது இடறுகிறது. நாமும் ‘பரவாயில்லை; அஞ்சுக்கு ரெண்டு பழுதில்லாட்டா பாதகமில்லை’ என்று இவர்களிடம் நாட்டு நிர்வாஹத்தை ஒப்புவிக்கிறோம். ஆனால் ‘ஹ்யூமன் நேச்சர்’ (மனுஷ்ய இயற்கை) போகிற போக்கில், இப்படிக் கலந்தாங்கட்டிகளாக இருக்கிறவர்களுக்கு ஒரு பதவி, ஸ்தானம் என்பது கிடைத்த பிறகு, ஐந்துக்கு இரண்டு என்பது ஒன்று, அரை, கால், ஸைஃபர் என்று சரிந்துகொண்டே போகிறது. இதனால்தான், அர்த்த சுத்தத்தை மட்டும் சொல்லாமல், ஆனாலும் அதுதான் பொது நிர்வாஹத்தில் மிகவும் முக்யமான விஷயமாதலால், அதைப் பிரித்து முதலிடம் கொடுத்துச் சொல்லி, அதோடுகூட ‘ஆத்மசுத்தம்’ என்பதாக ஒருவனுடைய ஆல்-ரௌண்ட் காரக்டரும் பழுதில்லாமல் பூர்ணமாயிருக்க வேண்டுமென்று விதியில் சேர்த்திருக்கிறார்கள்.

அந்தக் காலத்தில் ஆஸ்திக்யம், சாஸ்திராபிமானம், தெய்வத்திடம் பயபக்தி, அடக்கம், கட்டுப்பாடு முதலிய எல்லாமே பொதுவாக ஜன ஸமூஹத்தில் ஆழமாகப் பரவியிருந்ததால் மக்களின் காரக்டர் – லெவல் மிகவும் உயர்வாயிருந்தது. இன்றுபோல் தப்பு வழிகளில் இழுக்கிற அநேகக் கவர்ச்சிகளும் அப்போது கிடையாது. எனவே, சல்லடை போட்டுத் தேடித்தான் கண்டுபிடிக்கவேண்டுமென்றில்லமால் அங்கேயும் ஒரு சிலர் பூர்ணமாக ஆத்ம சுத்தமுடையவர்கள் என்னும்படியாக இருந்துகொண்டிருந்தார்கள். இப்படிப்பட்டவர்கள்தான் பொது நிர்வாஹத்துக்கு வரலாம், வரமுடியும் என்று ஐந்தாவது clause (ஷரத்து) நிர்ணயித்து விடுகிறது.

கல்வித் தகுதி - how important is educational qualification

வேட்பாளருக்கான கல்வித் தகுதி வேண்டுமா?

One may wonder what a question it is!

True, it's heartening to see many in 2026 TN council of Ministers are qualified - two Drs, one out of whom was an ex bureaucrat, tax Administrator, another an Engineer turned lawyer. Majority in the first oath taking 9 are higher education qualified.

But, the quintessential question ❓ is what's the prerequisite qualification - as per our Sastras - to become a member. In post independence era, we go by Our Constitution when it comes to anything in life. What, Maha Swami refers to as good education is, beyond modern contemporary academic campuses, deep value systems embedded in Sastras. Unfortunately Sastras are mistaken as a particular religion oriented. Our people have pride in declaring their allegiance to திருக்குறள். At the question how one finds out and learn Sastric codes, Maha Swami pointed to திருக்குறள், நன்னெறி. All these epics deeply imbed the very essence of the Sastras.

If our Netas' affinity for Thiruvalluvar is beyond ken of doubt, திருக்குறள், நன்னெறி have to be our Gospels and in people's expectations of adherence to these Holy texts in State-craft by their Honorable Representatives, we would pave way for Good Governance and harmony here.

வயஸு நிர்ணயம் சாஸனத்தின் ஸபை அங்கத்தினருக்கு விதித்த மூன்றாவது யோக்யதாம்சம். நாலாவது யோக்யதாம்சம் கல்வி பற்றியது. ஸபை அங்கத்தினராகத் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்படுபவர் நல்ல படிப்பாளியாக இருக்கவேண்டும் என்று விதி செய்திருக்கிறது. அந்தக் காலத்தில் படிப்பு என்றால் முக்யமாக சாஸ்த்ரப் படிப்புதான்.

எல்லாம் சாஸ்திரந்தான்– டான்சை பரத சாஸ்திரம் என்கிறோம், ஸயன்சை விஞ்ஞான சாஸ்திரம் என்கிறார்கள். ஆனாலும் பழையநாள் கல்வித் திட்டத்தில் சாஸ்திரம் என்றால் முதலில் ஆத்மாவைப் பற்றிய, பரமாத்மாவைப் பற்றிய வைதிகமான சாஸ்திரங்கள்தான்; அப்புறம் அதற்குள்ளேயே ஸூசனையாக வருகிற நன்னெறி, நல்வழிக்கோட்பாடுகளை விவரித்து விஸ்தாரமாக விதிகள் வகுத்து எழுதிய தர்ம சாஸ்திரம் , நீதி சாஸ்திரம் முதலியன; அதற்கப்புறம் காவ்யம், ஜாகரஃபி, ஹிஸ்டரி, கணிதம், ரஸாயன சாஸ்திரம் (என்கிற கெமிஸ்ட்ரி) பௌதிக சாஸ்திரம் (என்கிற ஃபிஸிக்ஸ்) இத்யாதிகள் – அறுபத்துநாலு கலைகள் என்பதில் எல்லா ஸயன்ஸ், ஆர்ட்ஸ் விஷயங்களும் வந்துவிடும். அத்தனையிலும் முக்யம் வைதிக வாழ்க்கை முறையையும் ஆசார அநுஷ்டானத்தையும் சொல்லும் சாஸ்திரம். எத்தனை சாஸ்திரங்களிருந்தாலும் ‘சாஸ்திரிகள்’ என்று அந்த ஒரு சாஸ்திரம் அறிந்தவரைதான் சொல்கிறோம் ? இப்போது கல்வி முறைக்கு அடியோடு ஸம்பந்தமில்லாததாக, பொது ஜனங்களை ‘முன்னேற்றும்’ கல்விக்கு முட்டுக்கட்டையாக இருப்பதென்றே விரோத பாவத்துடன் கருதப்படுவதாக இருக்கின்ற வேத தர்ம ஸமயாச்சாரந்தான் அன்றைய கல்வி முறைக்கு அச்சாக, ஆணிவேராக இருந்தது. இப்படிப்பட்ட கல்வியில் தேர்ச்சி பெற்றவரே ஊர் ஸபைத் தேர்தலுக்கு அபேக்ஷகராக இருக்கமுடியும் என்று விதி செய்திருக்கிறது.

Our own Veda, The Rig Veda approves while saying "'Let noble thoughts come from all sides."

The uniqueness lies in our all embracing and inclusive slogan, 'vasu daiva kutumbakam.'

Yet another Rig Veda slogan has the succincts of the title to this topic.:

இதிலே ஒன்றுமட்டும் கொஞ்சம் புதிதாக அபிவ்ருத்தி செய்துகொள்ள வேண்டும். ‘கம்பேரடிவ் ஸ்டடீஸ்’ என்பதாக யூனிவர்ஸிடிகளில் ஒரு ஃபிலாஸபி ஸிஸ்டத்தை மட்டுமில்லாமல் பலவற்றைப் படித்து ஒன்றுக்கொன்று எப்படி மாறுபட்டுப் போகிறது, எப்படி எத்தனையோ இடங்களில் அவை ஒப்புதலாகவும் போகின்றன என்று அறாய்கிறார்கள். இது ச்லாகிக்கவேண்டிய ஆராய்ச்சி. ஸம்ப்ரதாய முறையிலும் இதர ஸம்ப்ரதாய அபிப்ராயங்களைத் தெரிந்து கொள்ள வேண்டித்தான் இருக்கிறது. ஏனென்றால் எந்த ஸம்ப்ரதாயத்தைச் சேர்ந்த எந்த சாஸ்திரத்தை எடுத்தாலும் அதிலே மற்றவர்களின் கொள்கைகளைச் சொல்லி அவற்றைக் கண்டித்துத்தான் ஸ்வபக்ஷத்தை (தன் கட்சியை) நிர்த்தாரணம் செய்திருக்கும். பூர்வபக்ஷத்தில் (எதிராளியின் கட்சியில்) ஆரம்பித்து அவர்கள் கருத்தை டெவலப் செய்தபின்தான் ஸ்வபக்ஷத்தை நாட்டவேண்டுமென்பதே நம் சாஸ்திரக்காரகர்கள், முக்யமாக பகவத்பாதாள், கைக்கொண்ட முறை. ஆனால் தற்போது ஸம்ப்ரதாயப்படிப் படிப்பவர்கள், ஏற்கனவே சாஸ்திரக்காரர்கள் மற்ற ஸித்தாந்தங்களில் என்ன Quote செய்கிறார்களோ அதற்கு மேல் தாங்களாக அந்த சாஸ்திரங்களைப் பார்ப்பதில்லை. அவற்றை இன்னமும் ஊன்றிப் பார்க்கவேண்டும். பிற ஸித்தாந்தங்களை இன்னம் நன்றாக அறிய வேண்டும். கொஞ்சங்கூட ஸொந்த அபிப்ராயங்களினாலும் அபிமானங்களினாலும் prejudice ஆகாமல் ஸத்ய தத்வத்தை அறிவதற்கு இது உதவும். அவரவருடைய பக்வ ஸ்திதியைப் பொறுத்துத்தான் அறிவு வாதமும்கூட ஒவ்வொருவருக்கு ஒவ்வொரு முடிவைக் காட்டும், அறிவால் ஒரு விதமான முடிவுக்கு வந்தாலுங்கூட அவரவருக்கும் இதற்கு ஸம்பந்தமில்லாமல்கூட எது மனஸுக்குள்ளே நன்றாகத் தைக்கிறதோ அதைத்தான் ஒருத்தர் பின்பற்றுவார், கடைசியில் பார்த்தால் ஆத்மஸத்யம் என்பது அறிவு வாதங்களுக்கு அப்பாற்பட்டது – என்பதெல்லாம் நிஜந்தான். ஆனாலுங்கூட சாஸ்திரப் படிப்பு என்று ஒன்றை மேற்கொள்கிறபோது அதில் நல்ல தேர்ச்சியை ஸம்பாதித்துக் கொள்வதற்கு நான் சொன்னபடி அவரவரும் தங்களுக்குப் பிடித்த ஸம்ப்ரதாயத்தைத் “தரோ”வாகத் தெரிந்து கொள்வதோடு, மற்றவற்றையும் அந்த அளவுக்கு இல்லாவிட்டாலும் ஒரளவு நன்றாகவே தெரிந்துகொள்ள வேண்டும். அப்போதுதான் நாம் முடிவாக ஒப்புக்கொள்ள முடியாத ஸித்தாந்தங்களிலும் அறிவிலே பெரியவர்களாக வந்திருப்பவர்களின் பெருமையைத் தெரிந்துகொள்ள முடியும். “நம்முடையதுதான் அப்படியே உசத்தி, மற்றது ஒன்றும் இல்லாதது” என்ற குறுகல் பார்வை அறிவுலகத்தில் கூடாதாகையால் சொல்கிறேன்.

பழைய முறையில் அமைக்கிற கலாசாலைகளில், நல்ல இங்கிலீஷ் ஞானமுள்ள சிலர் நம் தேச ஃபிலாஸஃபிகளை மட்டுமில்லாமல், மற்ற தேச ஃபிலாஸஃபிகளையும்கூட இப்படிச் சேர்த்துப் படித்து ஆராய்ச்சி செய்து, புஸ்தகம் போட்டு, அவற்றின் ஸாரத்தையாவது இக் கலாசாலை வித்யார்த்திகளுக்கு தெரிவிக்கும்படியும் செய்யலாம்.

மலைகள், பாறைகள்.... காணாமல் போகலாமா?

மலைகள், பாறைகள் தவிடு பொடியாகின்றன. இது காலப்போக்கில், தட்ப வெப்பநிலை, இயற்கை மாற்றங்களால் நிகழ்ந்தால் ஒன்றும் செய்வதற்கில்லை. ஆனால் மனித நிகழ்வுகளால் நிகழ்ந்தால், வினா ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளக் கூடியதா?

மஹா ஸ்வாமி ஒரு பாறையைக் குறிப்பிடுகிறார். அந்தப் பாறை இப்போது இருக்கிறதா, இருந்தால் தெரிந்தவர்கள் , கல்வெட்டு சாஸ்திர ஈடுபாடு உடையவர்கள் பார்த்துக் கொள்ளலாம்.

மஹா ஸ்வாமி குறிப்பிடுகிற கல்வெட்டு வட ஆற்காடு மாவட்டம் குடியாத்தம் அருகில் உள்ள திருவல்லம் என்கிற கிராமத்தில் நீவா எனப்படும் ஆற்றின் மத்தியில் அமைந்துள்ள பாறையில் இருக்கிறது.

இதில் சொல்லப்பட்டு இருப்பது அந்தக் காலத்தில் இருந்த ஒரு கடிகையைப் பற்றி. கடிகை ஒரு பெரிய வித்தியாசாலை. இந்தக் கல்வெட்டில் குறித்திருந்த கடிகை மிக விசாலமானது, கிட்டத்தட்ட township என்கிறோமே, அது போல. ஏறத்தாழ 7000 பேர் படித்திருக்கிறார்கள்.

இந்தக் கல்வெட்டுக்களில் குறிப்பிடும் வழக்கம் நம் மூதாதையர் செய்த தர்மங்கள் பின் வரும் சந்ததியர் அறிந்து, காலப்பரிமணங்களில் காணாமல் போய்விடாது காப்பாற்றப் படவேண்டும் என்பதற்காகவே.

Story telling is powerful media.
But am I able to tell is a different story.
Why it's - telling story or listening to story?
If you ask can you show, cite an example, I don't have to grope. That it - the story, in whatever mode, be it just narrating, a stage play - impacts, strikes the right chord, we have plethora of examples.

Very famous example is that Mahatma took the sankalp, vow not to tell lie after having seen the play, the Raja Harishchandra.

Here the story we are going to see is what Amma - Mata Amritananda Mayi narrated in her column in New Sunday Express Magazine, weekend edition of New Indian Express.

Before going into the story as Amma narrated, a little detour, you may deem it as prelude to the story as well.

Maha Swami used to emphasize on following Darma Sastra - especially all derived from Vedas. Vedas weren't in written scripts. From the days of Rishis of the yore Vedas were learnt the way called, shravana meaning by only listening from Gurus. In the process and in this Kaliyug, as we went astray and missed and lost many of Vedas. We must thank God, that all is not lost and good souls are doing their best to do Veda Rakshana. To the question are there any texts where we can learn the succints of Darma Sastra, Maha Swami cites Tirukkural as best. How profound He was!

The couplet you would have read million times is

கற்க கசடறக் கற்பவை கற்றபின்
நிற்க அதற்குத் தக. 

Back to Amma's story
The story Amma narrated stands testimony to this couplet.

A team of students have completed their learning process in a Gurukulam. They have to qualify in the final test to be held by their Master.
Master schedules it on one particular day. On the scheduled day, the students proceed to the Gurukulam.

But would anything be as easy it is. The bottlenck springs up in the form thorns strewn on the way to the Gurukula. Very difficult it was to cross through it. Some students bearing the pain chose to walk over hurriedly. A few others just finding a very little space without thorns, walked through it. But the last boy started clearing thorn after thorn. When he bent down to clear the last of the thorn, the Guru came rushing and lifted boy to tell the student only he was qualified.

The matter is not in cramping, it's in living by what one learnt - கற்றபின் நிற்க அதற்குத் தக.

Bhagavan's hold....His Grace holds

Just as the prey which has fallen into the jaws of a tiger has no escape, so those who have come within the ambit of the Guru’s gracious look will be saved by the Guru and will not get lost; yet, each one should by his own effort pursue the path shown by God or Guru and gain release.

Just two days ago.

A young man, a Software Engineer, walked in. To consult for his proposed property purchase and tax compliance procedure.

He just sat in the chair turned right to look at the two Mahans' big pictures on the wall to the left of my work table.

 In complete awe and trying to relax - his first visit to our office -, he referred to my quoting one stanza of Bhagavan's Akshara Manamalai each day in my whatsapp status screen.

He went on. Once he had been to Bhagavan's Asram.  Eversince, he has been feeling the experience of Bhagavan lingering.

My mind went back to the very first day to Tiruvannamalai and Bhagavan's Asram in early 90s during our bank audit tour.  Entering the Matru Bhuteshwar Shrine, Shrine in dedication to Bhagavan's Mother Alagamma, just after Bhagavan's bust size idol on the right of the Mantap, on the outer wall was lengthy cloth banner carrying the message of Bhagavan's first experience, experiment of death.  My reading in English till then was very scarce, I can say hardly anything.  Fully awestruck in that divine vibe, I stood calmly and read every single word right from first word till the end, though the message was completely beyond my grasp and English scaring, especially words like rigor mortis.

Somehow it struck me that I must come here as often as is possible. More visits, fresh dimensions. Completely in Bhagavan's tight grip. More reading about Bhagavan, more listening about Bhagavan.

No surprise. Those who read Akshara Manamalai come, share their similar experiences. And those who got the vibe ask me about how to go to the Asram.

அனைவரும் அறிந்ததே. பொரி தான் மஹானின் உணவு. அதுவும் சிறிய அளவே. அதற்கும் ஒரு சவால் ஒரு முறை நிகழ்ந்தது. ஆந்திராவில் ஒரு சிவாலயத்தில் மஹான் தரிசனம் நிறைவு செய்து வெளியில் வந்த பொழுது அவர்கள் வைத்திருந்த பொரி மூட்டையைக் காணவில்லை. Maha Swami didn't get perturbed. Fortunately, one sishya accompanying Maha Swami on pilgrimage had in his bag பொரி bundles sufficient for next three days. As day 4 was fast approaching, the sishya felt deep pain as how would they get pori for the next day. Just then, entered a devotee, appeared before Maha Swami for darsn and he offered a big bundle of pori to Maha Swami.

Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi 's kitchen 

Those days bhakthas thronged Bhagavan's Asram. Some stayed in the Asram itself. Food was cooked in the kitchen and offered to all who came to have darsn of Bhagavan. One night the rice stock in Asram was almost nil. Worried cook told about this to Bhagavan. Bhagavan didn't get perturbed. Just then a bullock cart entered the Asram. A rich farmer and devotee of Bhagavan brought in bags and bags of rice.

Miracles happen in divine presence.

The force, மஹா சக்தி operates.

The 'how' will remain.

What we can do is, just partake a tiny of மஹா prasad.

The True Message of Deepavali

- HH Jagadguru Pujya Sri Sri Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Mahaswamiji

Deepavali and Naraka-Chaturdasi are one and the same. This is celebrated as a national festival throughout India, but in different ways in different parts of the country. In North India, it is considered a day of lights and the houses are colourfully illumined on the occasion. In the South, however, people take an oil bath before dawn and put on new clothes. It brings happiness and joy to people who undergo sufferings in their daily lives. In the early hours of the dawn of the day preceding the new moon day, i.e. Chaturdasi, when the sun is in the Tula Rasi (Libra) of Zodiac, water anywhere in the world is Ganga and oil becomes saturated with the auspicious presence of Sri Mahalakshmi. Everyone from the simplest gypsy to the proudest magnate, from the innocent child to the serene saint should take a bath with oil and water and be happy, illuminating every nook and corner with strings of light, literally deepa-aavali (rows of lights). This is the boon prayed for by a mother when her son, who was a real naraka, to the world at large, was being killed by Sri Krishna. 

"Let the happiness of every creature in the world be the compensation for the grief caused to me by the death of my son", was the prayer of that bereaved mother. Deepavali outweighs every festival because of its having emanated from two hearts in which happiness of the world at large outweighed the lightest pitch of personal calamity. Nothing can be nobler than this last wish of the dying demon, and more so, the prayer of a bereaved mother.

Saraswati Devi in a cave

If we all think just only Ayodhya was under siege, we are all mistaken. 

Maha Periyavar refers to an incident in Madhya Pradesh. The place is Dhar city. It was ruled by King Bhoja, nearly about thousand years ago. He was great supporter of Indian Arts, literature, poetry, Sanskrit, architecture etc. People came to learn that a few people saw some Sanskrit letters inside a cave there in a Mosque. Only after independence, the Epigraphical department could manage to obtain permission from the custodians and see inside the cave. There was a chakra inscripted within which lot of slokas in Sanskrit were found. 

The same was Saraswathy Devi Temple during King Bhoja's era. Maha Periyava says it was proof that those days Kings preserved and worshipped Sastras, Vedas.

shaantarupe shashidhare sarvayoge namo namaha

Maha Swami on Ram Nama....vol 4, தெய்வத்தின் குரல்:

ராம ஸ்மரணம் மாத்திரம் ஒருவனுக்கு ஸதாவும் இருந்து விட்டால் அவனுக்கு இந்த பாபமயமான, துக்கமயமான பூலோகமே பரமபதமாகத் தானிருக்கும் என்று ரூபித்துக் காட்டக்கூடிய யோக்யதை இவர்களுக்கு இருந்தது. ஆகையால், ‘இந்த உண்மையை உலகத்துக்குக் காட்டுவதற்காக இவர்கள் இங்கேயே சிரஞ்ஜீவியாக இருந்து கொண்டிருக்கட்டும்’ என்று நினைத்தார். அதனால் அவர்களை பூலோகத்திலேயே இருக்கும்படியாக ஆக்ஞாபித்து விட்டுப் போய்விட்டார்.

This may have become museum piece.

But if your fingers effortlessly do a நர்த்தன் in your modern key board, we owe a lot to our training in these years ago - lower, higher grades.

My memory goes back.When a bunch of cousins, we approached the Master at Lakshmi Institute, behind age old Lakshmi Theatre at Devakottai. The Master said, "sorry, all slots are full. I can't help."One ingenious cousin, not a one to give up easily shot back, "Is your 4 a.m slot also full?".

Master stared and hesitantly said, " we open by 6 am only."My go-getter cousin said, "Master you give the key, we will practice from 4.30 to 5.30 or six and we will leave after 6 am slot students walk in."

Master handed over one key out of his two sets.

For about two months we practice till our college opened after summer vacation".The adjoining one is 100 years old Narayana Vilas restaurant. There too, after type practice, in the restaurant too we were the first to walk in and enjoy the steamy ghee Pongal sprinkled with roasted cashews. Can Pongal go alone? Yeah, it went with its accomplice, the piping hot methu vada. 

The days we can't go back but live in happy memory only.

Miracles.....How?

We don't know.

God keeps sprinkling surprises here and there quite often.

It was a busy working Saturday.

A cousin walked in casually, for it was his holiday.

 In the midst of chat, he narrated two of his close experiences.

The first,

His cousin's friend has a house in Kodaikanal. That friend's mother is a devotee of Bhagavan Sai Baba of Puttabarti. Swamiji used to Visit His Asram in Kodai. The friend is a jolly good fellow. In his house, his mother had decorated their hall with a big picture of Baba. Whenever his mother was away from hilly town, he gathers his local friends and is used to have a drink session. Every time he picks up a glass, he extends the same towards Baba's portrait and says, "cheers".

One weekend the mother dropped in. She took him to have darsn of Baba at Kodai Asram. It's a practice in Baba's Asram. Before Bhagavan arrives in the hall to give darsn, the male devotees are seated on one side and the women on the other side. Our friend was in the front row. When Bhagavan enters the hall, He walks slowly and collects from a few the prayer chits, says a few words to devotees randomly. Bhagavan suddenly stood before our friend and said loudly, "cheers". The friend was stunned.

That very day, the friend gave up drinking once and for all.

The story 2.

Another common senior cousin took this cousin suddenly on one day to Kanchi Math. The senior is very pious person.The senior's forefathers had done திருப்பணி in a very famous temple near Kumbakonam. When the cousins arrived in the Math, there was heavy crowd. They were wondering would they be able to have darsn of Maha Swami that day. They made up their mind to return and come back some other day. Suddenly an attender to Maha Swami came out of the Math and said to the cousins, "Maha Swami instructed me to take you inside."

தலைப்பை தீர ஆராயும் முன், can we ask a question, ஹிந்துக்களுக்கு இஸ்லாம், Christianity போன்ற மத விலாசம் ஏதேனும் இருந்ததா?

There's every reason to be skeptic.  Do the young ones know the பாரம்பரியா? That ours is not a religion like Christianity. In the sense that there was a founder of it, viz., the Christ Jesus.  And also unlike you can identify the time period when Other Religions got established, we can't trace the timeline when the Hindu began.  Further, no one did baptize it with the name Hindu. It's a trick that the colonial Rulers,  in their attempt to divide and rule and isolate against others, named us as Hindus   That's how the name still continues.

The base one could premise our பாரம்பரிய at the maximum is the Veda.  Vedas, were they written scripts?  Do they have a letter form? No.  They are just the powerful sabdas, sounds, which the Rishis of the yore cognized while in deep tapas.

The Rishis distilled those holy sounds and passed down their lineage. Later we got Maha Puranas, epics like Ramayan and Maha Bharat by Sages Valmiki and Vysa and Upanishads etc.

Coming back to the topic,

The brothers/sisters from other religions can cite what their holy gospel book is.  Like Bible, Quran etc.  When they ask us, we blink.  For, as said earlier, Vedas were not in identifiable scripts.

We read only the distilled versions in Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita and other slokas, verses written much later after Timeless Veda happened on this prabancha, the world as we see today.

If we, the Tamil knowing populace, want to zero in on, the best treatise is Maha Swami's தெய்வத்தின் குரல் in 7 volumes.  Any one deeply interested in to know our தாத்பரியம், in one treatise where you get it, all are in தெய்வத்தின் குரல் volumes.

Years ago, when I went on Audit tour I stayed in a Coimbatore Hotel.  In the Rooms there were two books, one the Bible and the other Swami Chidhbhavananda's commentary on Srimad Bhagavad Gita.

I am aware the brethern from other Sects are so religious in their prayers, reading of their Holy scripts. 

The irony is in ours, it hasn't become quotidian to read our holy verses.

திருஞானசம்பந்தரின் -(சிவ)- விஷ்ணு!?!!! பாராயணம்

What we know is 7th century born, அன்னை பார்வதியால், அமுது - அல்ல அல்ல - ஞான அமுது பருகிய பாலகன், தெய்வக்குழந்தை , ஞானசம்பந்தர் சிவபெருமானைப் போற்றிப் பாடியதாகவே ,தேவார, திருவாசகத்தில் தேர்ந்தவர்களுக்குத் தெரிந்திருக்கலாம் சம்பந்தர் சிவனையும், விஷ்ணுவையும் துதித்துப் பாடியிருப்பார் என்று.  நாமும் அறிந்து கொள்வோமா?

அழைக்கின்றார் மஹா ஸ்வாமி.

In His தெய்வத்தின் குரல், while writing a topic titled, கவி சாதுர்யம், He refers to the abilities of Saints, literateurs, He draws our attention to speciality of certain words, which when read from left to right and vice versa reads the same way and gives the same meaning - called Palindrome.

E.g.:

விகடகவி

ஸரஸ 

குடகு

கயா ப்ராயக.

It's not in just words standing alone.

Erudite ஞானசம்பந்தர் went ahead and wrote a few verses, when read front to end and vice versa read the same:

யாமாமாநீ  யாமாமா யாழீகாமா காணாகா 

காணாகாமா காழீயா மாமாயாநீ மாமாயா

மாமாயா here refers to the spouse of Goddess Mahalakshmi - மாயா ஸ்வரூபாமன மஹா விஷ்ணு.  Ok.  Where does ஞானசம்பந்தர் refer to Lord Shiva here in this verse?  In the word, மாயாழீ - periya யாழைக் கையிலே வைத்து வீனாதர தக்ஷ்ணமூர்தியாக ஈஸ்வரன் மீட்டிக் கொண்டு இருப்பதால் 'மாயாழீ' என்கிறார்.

So,

Isn't it clear,

அரியும் சிவனும் ஒன்று,

அரி யாதவன் வாயிலே மண்ணு.

Note, it's not அறியாதவன்.

அரி - மஹா விஷ்ணு 

யாதவன் - கண்ண பரமாத்மா

அதென்ன வாயிலே மண்ணு?

மாயக் கண்ணன் தன் தாய்க்கு தான் யாரென்று வாயிலே லோகத்தைக் காண்பிக்கரதைத் தான், வாயிலே மண் என்பதாகக் கொள்ள வேண்டும்.

குரு பிரம்மா குரு விஷ்ணு குரு தேவோ மகேஸ்வர |

குரு சாஷாத் பரப்பிரம்மா தஸ்மை ஸ்ரீகுருவே நமஹ ||

Once a whitish by name J W Elder asked Maha Swami,

"Those days why is it, for no reason Artha Sastra advised waging war against other kingdoms, expansion mania?".

Before seeing what answer Maha Swami gave to above query, it's pertinent here to note what Maha Swami referred to about Artha Sastra.

The prime Source is Veda.  Apart from the main Vedas, there are many other upa Vedas including Artha Sastra like Ayur Veda, Kandarva Veda, Danur Veda et al. It may seem surreal to see why Artha Sastra alone doesn't have the same name pattern. The names of other upa Vedas like Ayur Veda, Danur Veda all end with the suffix 'veda', while Artha Sastra doesn't.

The reason Maha Swami cites is, despite all upa Vedas have their succincts from Vedas, the Artha Sastra have elements on its own away from Main Vedas. That's the reason why the name ending with Sastra instead of with Veda.

Well, 

Coming back to Maha Swami's answer to the white gentleman,

" The practice - of waging war against other kingdoms with the idea to usurp - was of those days.  It has more to do with Artha - Artha Sastra - and nothing to do with Vedas, Dharma Sastras.  Hence not to assume Vedas validate such acts - of usurping the wealth of others and expansion mania."

What a strong conviction?

Gu in குரு is darkness, ignorance.

Ru is to enlighten.

ஒரு ராஜா எப்படி இருக்க வேண்டும்?

சாஸ்திரங்களுக்கு எல்லாம் மேலானது, என்றும் சாஸ்வதமானது என்றும் நாம் எல்லாம் அதன்படியே தர்ம நெறிகளின் படி அன்றாட வாழ்வில் நடந்து கொள்ள வேண்டும் என மஹா ஸ்வாமி மீண்டும் மீண்டும் வலியுறுத்துகிறார்.

அந்தக் கால மன்னர் ஆட்சியில் கூட மன்னர்கள், எதேச்சாதிகாரம் பலம் பொருந்தியவர்களாக இருந்தாலும், தங்கள் செல்வத்தைப் பெருக்கிகொள்ளமல் மக்கள் நலனுக்காகவே - for a welfare state - மக்களைப் பாதிக்காமல் வரி வசூல் செய்து செலவிட்டு வந்தனர் என மஹா கவி காளிதாசின் ரகு வம்சத்திலிருந்து மஹா ஸ்வாமி மேற்கோள் காட்டுகின்றார்.

மஹா ஸ்வாமி மனம் நொந்து குறிப்பிடுகிறார்:

" இப்போதானால் தினமும் ஏதாவது மந்திரி, எம்.எல். ஏ வுக்கு எப்படிப் புதிசு புதுசாக பங்களாக்கள் என்று யாராவது கேள்வி எழுப்புவதைப் பார்க்கிறோம்."

இப்படி ஏதும் தனக்கென சேர்க்காது மக்கள் நலனே பிரதானம் என்று அயராது உழைத்த மகத்தான தலைவரின் பிறந்த நாள் இன்று.

Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi's take is straight away. That's vichara, questioning - questioning Who am I? - way.

Yet Bhagavan Himself - in His trying to experience what's it to die - felt a force in the motionless state of that trial, state of Rigor Mortis.

The music and dance involve creation of a harmonious sound, movement and vibration. That ultimately leads you to the state, the state of Truth, Advaitic non-duality. This exercise and practice Maha Swami explains and refers to as Kundalini Yogam. There is a connecting nerve, naadi, which connects from the root of our spinal cord to the peak on your head.  The whole energy is in the root base, மூலாதாரம், beneath the spinal cord.  When the energy travels upward and reaches the peak, there you feel the oneness, non-dual Advaitic state.

How do you reach that ultimate?

Multiple ways.:

Pranayama 

Mantra chanting 

Dhyan - Meditation.

Are there any milestones in between, between the root base of spiral cord and the peak of your head?

Yes.

Through seven chackras.

When you practice any of above Pranayama, mantra chanting or dhyan, it carries the energy upward through every milestone. When it reaches the chackra near the  heart and where the mind and energy consummate, you can feel the force, the force Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi referring to. Maha Swami explains this in His inimitable style,

" கீழேயுள்ள மூலாதார சக்ரத்திலிருந்து மேலே உள்ள ஒவ்வொரு சக்ரமாக ஏறிக்கொண்டு போக வேண்டும். இவற்றில் ஹ்ருதையத்திற்கு நேரே இருக்கிற சக்ரத்தில் பிராணனையும், மனஸையும் நிறுத்தும்போது அங்கே தானாகவே ' அனாஹதமாக ' ஒலிக்கின்ற பிரணவ சப்தத்தைக் கேட்க முடியும். அதனால் இதற்கு அனாஹாத சக்ரம் என்றே பெயர்.'

From the vibration that dance and music create, one can move towards the non-dual Advaitic state. 

Eswar is a dancer, dances ஆனந்தத்தண்டவம்.

The Raga ஆனந்த பைரவி emanates from this.

Eswar derives His energy from Ma Samaya Devi.

ஒரு முறை மஹா ஸ்வாமிகளின் தரிசனத்திற்காக வெளிநாட்டு பக்தர் ஒருவர் காத்திருந்தார்.

அவர் சார்ந்திருந்த மதக் கலாசரப்படி அந்த அந்த பிறவியிலேயே பாப புண்ணியங்களுக்கான பலன்களை அடைவான் என்று.  

நமது கலாச்சாரத்தில் உள்ள பிறவிப்பயன் ஏன் பின்வரும் பிறவிவுகளிலும் தொடர்வதாக நம்பப்படுகிறது என்பது அன்பரின் சந்தேகம். விடை தேடி மஹா சுவாமிகளிடம் விண்ணப்பித்தார்.

மஹா ஸ்வாமி விடையை அன்பர் தானே உணரும் வண்ணம் அன்பரிடம் , ' நான் உங்கள் கேள்விக்கு பதில் கூறுமுன், நீங்கள் ஒன்று செய்ய வேண்டும். செய்வீர்களா?".

மஹா சுவாமிகள் கேட்டபின் அன்பர், "தங்கள் உத்தரவுக்கு காத்திருக்கிறேன்".

மகாஸ்வமியின் உத்தரவுப்படி அன்பர் காஞ்சி நகர் முழுதும் 10 மருத்துவமனைகளில் பிறந்த குழந்தைகளின் - பெற்றோர், குழந்தையின் ஆரோக்கிய நிலை, இன்ன பிற தகவல்களையும் மஹா ஸ்வாமிகளின் உத்தரவின்படி திரட்டி வந்தார்.

சில குழந்தைகள் வசதியான பெற்றோர்களுக்கு முதல் குழந்தையாக தரமான மருத்துவமனைகளில் பிறந்ததாகவும், சில குழந்தைகள் ஏழ்மையான பெற்றோருக்கு இரண்டவதகவோ, மூன்றவதகவோ வசதிக் குறைவாக உள்ள மருத்துவமனைகளில் பிறந்ததாகவும், சில குழந்தைகள் ஆரோக்கியமாக இருப்பதாகவும், சில குழந்தைகள் ஆரோக்கியக் குறைபடுடையவர்களாகவும் பிறந்து இருப்பதாகவும் தெரிவித்தார்.

எல்லாக் குழந்தைகளும் சற்றேறக்குறைய ஒரே கோள்கள் அமைப்பின் கீழ் ஒரே தினத்தில் பிறந்திருந்தும், ஏன் இவ்வளவு வித்தியாசங்கள் ஒரே சமயத்தில் பிறந்த குழந்தைகளிடம்?

Hence not to blame horoscope.
