Veda, the Epics way

Veda, the Epics way

There's an animosity for Sanskrit here. And naked attempts to fan this hatred imagining it would turn a wild fire.

But try as they may.
Pity them they bang their heads on rough rocks.

Sanskrit has seen immemorable, uncountable aeons. No power, howsoever mighty may that be,  can obliterate it from this bhramanda prapancha.

Well, why bother if some are deeply bent on fooling themselves?

Well,
Is Sanskrit so abstruse that one can't follow?

No,  the author of this piece has no formal exposure to this holy Bhasha.

Yet with preliminary study of a little Hindi,  it helps in reading Sanskrit scripts,  though not with as complete ease as reading one's mother tongue or Macaulay imposed second language, English.

Coming to the point,
To the title of this piece...

The author of Maha Periyava's, தெய்வத்தின் குரல் - The voice of God,  volume 2 dedicates a whole chapter on புராணம்,  Purana,  the Epics.

Maha Periyava's take on Purana:

Purana,  serves as magnifying glass,  by explaining and elucidating the Veda, in abstruse forms,  through innumerable epic stories.

Who doesn't love stories?

From young to aged.
All do.

It needs an interesting and elaborative way to get to Vedas in aphoristic terms. The Epics come handy.

To illustrate,

सत्यं वद, satyam Vada (Taittireeya Upanishads 1/11) - meaning to speak truth,   the Harischandra story explains the significance of speaking truth through multiple chapters. Seeing the drama version of this story,  all know Mahatma took a vow to speak only truth  and went on to name his autobiography, "An Experiment with Truth".

No need to emphasize the power of the stories and the way good thoughts will get deeply imprinted in the young minds.

Maatru Devo Bhava Pitru Devo Bhava.

The story of Ramayan stands testimony to it. Lord Ram obeyed His parents. Didn't say no when Kooni spirited Kaikeyi told Ram tersely it was His father's order that he had to go on exile and leave the throne to Bharata.

The characters of these stories suffered and endured unfathomable hardships. Yet they didn't swerve and deviate from the path of righteousness. Ultimately, they turned triumphant.

Reading and listening to their stories,  the one who reads,  listens go one with the characters,   feel strongly the need to stick to the same virtuous way regardless of any hardships.
